All New Amazon Firestick Remote Released (With Dedicated App Buttons)
Amazon has released an all-new Alexa Voice Remote for Firestick and Fire TV, adding to its wide array of Fire TV products.
Users can pre-order the remote now but it is not set to release until April 14, 2021.
The price for this device is set at $29.99. (Same as the 2nd Gen. Voice Remote)
This updated version of the 2018 model includes one noticeable feature – dedicated app buttons.
Similar to Roku Remotes, this new device has 4 clickable buttons to launch apps instantly.
While the options will vary by region, users in the US can anticipate the apps to include:
- Prime Video
Those in Germany, Canada, and other areas will have buttons for Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Music.
The other noticeable feature for this remote includes an added Live TV button that is available in Fire TV Stick Lite models.
Users can also expect the Alexa button to be blue with the official Alexa logo in place of the microphone button.
Currently, this remote is listed as compatible with the following Fire TV Models:
- Fire TV Stick Lite
- Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen and later)
- Firestick 4k
- Fire TV (3rd Generation)
- Fire TV Cube (all models)
This means that if you have a Fire TV Edition Smart TV, 1st Gen. Firestick/Fire TV, or 2nd Generation Fire TV, the new remote will not work with your device.
Amazon is also now including this new remote with the Fire TV Stick 3rd Generation models.
This is in relation to the company offering the device for sale for the first time in Australia, Brazil, and Mexico.
It is likely that these remotes will be included with all new versions of Firestick and Fire TV in the near future.

I’d like to see a programmable button so that the user can choose.

Personally I think what would be an excellent idea would be to make the 4 dedicated buttons user programmable. that way you could do the Hulu, you tube or you could set it any other app the individual favors most.

Sorry, all I see it as is another way for Amazon to pick our pockets. The Home screen brings up the “Most Recent” apps, where those “dedicated” button apps most likely show up. I find I have NOT used those buttons over the years on Smart TVs, Roku and other similar devices. That is a personal preference, however, am I am sure there is an audience for that feature. Their price reminds me of trying to buy replacement knobs for my Electrolux gas cooktop. I can find them on Amazon but was shocked to find that they are $50 EACH.. Since there are 5, it is almost cheaper to buy a new cooktop. I am sure Ihave seen the ENTIRE Firestick WITH remote on sale for the same price.

For a hard-core cord cutter, the new buttons are useless. But for someone like me, I kinda like them.

I just wish the remotes were more durable. 1 accidental drop on the hardwood floor and no more worky.
Unless you call intermittent working.

are the buttons ultimately sponsored by the relevant apps owners ? seems logical, personally I think 3 or 4 user programmable buttons would be a better way fwd so users can choose which apps the buttons link to/open.
